Posted by janhutchings
In what many considered as a surprising, Rocky-esque success story, Independent studio Capybara Games (developer of Indie hit, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP) took home a whopping FIVE awards at the Canadian Videogame Awards. Matched only by Eidos Montreal’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Superbrothers won the awards for:
- Best Game On The Go
- Best Downloadable Game
- Best Indie Game
- Best Original Music
- Innovation Award
Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP is an iOS adventure game that emphasizes a unique audiovisual style. It also takes advantage of the iOS device’s orientation during gameplay. If you can imagine those old point-and-click adventure games, Superbrothers is a re-imagining of that. It also let players discover and enjoy the game’s features at their own pace, progressively surprising addicted players with something new and exciting at every turn. Since its initial release during the spring of last year, Superbrothers has amassed critcal praise and great commercial success, putting Capybara Games on everyone’s radar.
The most amazing thing about Capybara’s award wins, is the fact that they rose above triple-A titles like THQ’s Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, and EA’s Fight Night: Champion. Truly a shining moment for independent studios everywhere.
