Dishonored Review

Set in a strangely familiar steampunkish universe, Dishonored drops you into the shoes of bodyguard-turned-assassin Corvo. The Empress has been killed, you have been framed, and now you’re out for blood. While this premise may sound like any generic shooter on the market, Dishonored sets itself apart with a refreshing sneak-and-magic mechanic and an interesting world through which to sneak.

Idle hands are the devil’s playthings, they say, so when I get too bored I turn to one of my many hobbies to keep me occupied. This time, I combined two of them: video games and baking. Of course, why not make it to look like food from the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review

We live in an age of refined fantasy. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings series completely re-imagined what film fantasy could – and should – be, and gone forever are the days of Willownonsense. (I hope.) George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice has reached a level of political and moral maturity – not to mention unpredictability – most genre series can only dream of.

Add Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim to that list; by doing what they do best, why, they’ve just about made just about every other fantasy RPG franchise their bitch. Read the rest of this entry

The Psychology of Skyrim

Ah, the vast and beautiful Tamriel province of Skyrim. It’s easily the harshest place in Nirn to be visited in the Elder Scrolls series thus far and, we are told, the first populated by man. It’s an epic and immersive place, like Oblivion and Bethesda’s Fallout titles before it, created to get lost within.

You build your character — whose only shared characteristic from game-to-game is that he or she is Doväkiin, or Dragonborn: a person born with the soul of a dragon — from anonymous nobody to raging, flame-drenched dragon fucker. It’s an ambitious experience few games even come close to offering.

But I’ve noticed something troubling.

PREY 2 Gameplay Demo Video (Part 2)

PREY 2 Gameplay Demo Video (Part 2)

What used to be the hunted has become the hunter.

A few weeks ago, I posted the my first gameplay demo footage of the upcoming PREY 2. Well, the second video is now up as well, and it highlights the vertical parkour gameplay mechanics, as well as the cover system (much like the one found in Guerilla’s Killzone series).

PREY 2 is starting to like a futuristic Oblivion or Fallout, but with much better first person combat mechanics. The smooth and relatively easy-to-use free-running movement combined with modern first person shooter mechanics give this game a style all its own.
